Men's Soccer Falls to Delaware 3-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William and Mary men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware on Saturday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Freshman William Eskay tallied the Tribe's lone goal in the 76th minute. With the decision the Tribe falls to 5-9-1, 2-3-1 in CAA play, while Delaware improves to 10-4-0, 3-1-0 in league action.

Delaware had a pair of chances moments apart to start the offensive attack in the middle of the first half. Marco Siverio had a chance to put a shot on target, but he kicked his attempt off of one of his teammates. Moments later, Ben Sampson put a shot on frame, but senior goalkeeper Bennett Jones was there for the save.

W&M's best chance in the first period came in the 17th minute. Sophomore Reilly Maw got on the end of a through ball and launched a shot towards the goal. However, Delaware goalkeeper Borja Barbero was there for his first save of the game.

The Blue Hens found the game's first goal in the 39th minute of the match. Joe Dipre found some space on the top left corner of the 18-yard box. He lifted his shot just over Jones into the top right corner of the goal. Dipre's fifth goal of the season gave Delaware a 1-0 lead.

Delaware doubled its lead with a marker in the 68th minute. Thibault Philippe and Dipre completed a give-and-go through the Tribe backline, with Dipre firing a shot on target. Waiting on the goal line was Guillemero Delgado, who headed the goal home. The tally gave the Blue Hens a 2-0 advantage.

The Tribe pulled one back with its first goal of the night in the 76th minute. Redshirt freshman Adam Crenshaw sent a cross from the left side of the field that found William Eskay. The Urbana, Maryland native, who was in the middle of the 18, fired his strike into the right corner of the goal. The fourth of the year for the freshman cut the Blue Hen's lead to 3-1. The assist from Crenshaw was his first career point.

Delaware came storming right back and extended its lead back to two just three minutes later. Ben Asante sent a through ball to Dipre. Dirpre, who was on the left side of the pitch, sent a perfect cross to Carolos Perales. Perales hit a sliding shot into the back of the net to push the lead to 3-1.

Jones made four saves in goal for the Tribe on the evening. Delaware outshot W&M by a 14-5 margin, including a 7-3 mark in shots on goal. Five different players fired shots for W&M on the night.

The Tribe concludes its regular season home schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they play host to in-state rival Old Dominion. The match, which will be televised on the Hampton Roads Sports Network, is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
