The No. 21 William and Mary women's cross country team beat out three higher-ranked foes Saturday at the Pre-National Invitational, finishing eighth in the 49-team race with 248 points.  No. 5 Georgetown won the team title, 117-162 over No. 2 Florida State.  In the individual race, Boise State's Emma Bates was the champion in 20:09.1, finishing ahead of Stanford's Aisling Cuffe.

Leading the way for the Tribe for the first time this season was sophomore All-American Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio), who finishing eighth overall in 20:17.8.  Senior All-American Elaina Balouris (Allison Park, Pa.) was 12th in 20:24.2, and classmate Michelle Britto (Woodbridge, Va.) was next across the line for the Green and Gold in 21:12.7 for 64th overall.  Dylan Hassett (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Meghan McGovern (North Wales, Pa.) paire dup to take 81st and 83rd, respectively, in 21:18.5 and 21:19.8.  Sophomore Erica Amatori (Cary, N.C.) was 161st with a time of 21:50.4, and senior Clarissa Schick (Richmond, Va.) rounded out the team in 21:59.2 for 186th.

In the open race held later on Saturday, junior Carolyn Hennessey (Herndon, Va.) took ninth overall in 22:06.8.  Sophomore Becca Eudailey (Quinton, Va.) was 27th in 22:42.6, and senior Christina Lee (Sterling, Va.) was 32nd in 22:51.1.

Next up for the Tribe is the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, which will be held in two weeks (Saturday, Nov. 2) in Towson, Md.  W&M will be aiming to defend its title from a year ago.
