WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 28, 2013) - After
posting outstanding seasons, a trio of William and Mary football standouts
garnered second-team all-state honors from the Virginia Sports Information
Directors (VaSID). Senior cornerback B.W. Webb, senior left tackle Mike Salazar
and sophomore wide receiver Tre McBride all earned the distinction.
One of the
nation's top collegiate players this fall, Webb recently played in the 2013
Senior Bowl after earning multiple postseason All-America accolades. The
Newport News, Va., native earned first-team distinction from Phil Steele and
was a second-team selection by the Associated Press and The Sports Network.
Webb finished
his illustrious career as one of the most-decorated players in Colonial
Athletic Association history with nine postseason all-conference honors. A
first-team all-league selection during each of the past three seasons, Webb was
honored as the 2012 Special Teams Player of the Year by both the CAA and the
Touchdown Club of Richmond.
Selected to
the 2012 Buchanan Award Watch List, Webb earned a school-record 48 starts and
finished his career ranked among W&M's all-time top 10 in interceptions
(11) and punt return yards (603).
As a senior,
Webb totaled 46 tackles, eight PBU's, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble
and a tackle for a loss. Additionally, he averaged 11.2 yards per punt return
while ranking third in the conference with 123 punt return yards.
Salazar
anchored the Tribe's offensive line this season and earned second-team
all-conference honors. The Lawrenceville, N.J., native started all 34 games
during his final three seasons, including the last 22 contests at left tackle.
After playing
as a true freshman last season, McBride emerged as one of the CAA's top wide
receivers this fall and earned second-team all-league distinction. The
McDonough, Ga., native ranked second in the conference in touchdown receptions
(10), third in yards per catch (16.3), fourth in receiving yards per game
(81.5), seventh in receptions per game (5.0) and eighth in all-purpose yards
per game (102.7). Additionally, he posted three 100+ yard receiving games and
four multi-touchdown games, while his 10 touchdown catches ranks tied for fifth
on W&M's single-season list.
