WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Former William and Mary men's basketball standout
Quinn McDowell recently inked a deal with the Willetton Tigers of the States
Basketball League in Perth, Australia for the 2013 season. McDowell and his
wife, the former Lindsey Moller, a 2011 graduate of the College and former
women's basketball player, departed for Australia to join the Tiger Community
on Monday.
Recently, McDowell was a member of the Athletes in Action Fall
Tour based out of Raleigh, N.C. The Tour included exhibition games against
college teams as well as a trip to Puerto Rico, where the team ran basketball
clinics along with a game schedule. During the Tour, McDowell led AIA with 15
points in a win over UNC Pembroke on Oct. 25. He also added 14 points in a
victory over Limestone College on Oct. 30, while chipping in 12 in a win
against Barton College on Oct. 24.
"Quinn is coming off a stellar college career,"
Willetton head coach Matt Foster said in a release. "Having averaged double
figure points for the last three years of his college career, at a NCAA
Division 1 level, Quinn will be one of the better credentialed players we have
seen in the SBL."
During his senior year at W&M, McDowell
became the first CAA men's basketball player to be named a finalist for the
Lowe's Senior Class Award, earning All-America honors. He was the first
two-time winner of the CAA's Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, taking home the honor
in 2011 and 2012. The award is given to the student-athlete who "embodies
the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship in conjunction
with his academic athletic achievement."
A two-time team captain, McDowell was the
CAA men's basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012, a three-time CAA
All-Academic Team honoree and a two-time All-CAA performer on the court during
his Tribe career. He became just the fourth player in W&M history to score
1,500 career points and pull down 500 career rebounds. McDowell departed the
Tribe program as its all-time leader in games and minutes played.
McDowell and his wife, Lindsey, were married in Williamsburg
in June of 2012. During the AIA Fall Tour, Lindsey volunteered with non-profit
named "Jobs for Life," and helped walk women through an eight-week class, which culminated in graduation and possible employment opportunities.
She will also be part of the Willetton Tigers community, working with the club
on marketing projects along with teaching fitness classes and coaching girls
junior teams.
