Tribe Lacrosse Falls at James Madison, 15-11

HARRISONBURG, Va. (April 13, 2012) - The William and Mary lacrosse team fell to James Madison, 15-11, on Friday evening in Harrisonburg, Va.

W&M (2-12, 0-4) led by as many as three goals in the first half, but James Madison (8-5, 4-0) utilized a 7-1 run to start the second stanza to earn the victory.

Junior Kyrstin Mackrides led the Tribe with three goals, while sophomore Taelor Salmon totaled a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. Sophomores Jenna Dougherty and Katie Stillwell also recorded two goals apiece, while freshman Kaleigh Noon earned a career-high six draw controls.

Although JMU got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Ashley Kimener just a little more than a minute into the contest, W&M answered with goals by senior Maggie Anderson and Dougherty to take a 2-1 lead with 22:48 showing.

After JMU reclaimed the lead with back-to-back scores, the College rattled off a 4-0 run midway through the half to build a 6-3 advantage. Stillwell scored twice during the stretch, while junior Caitlin Murphy and Dougherty also found the back of the cage.

The Dukes rallied back with a 3-0 run of their own to tie the count at 6-6 with 6:43 remaining, but Salmon and Mackrides both scored in the stanza's waning minutes to give the Tribe an 8-6 cushion at halftime.

James Madison opened the second half with three unanswered goals and regained the lead, 9-8, following a score by Cally Chakrian with 22:20 showing.

While a free-position goal by Salmon less than two minutes later evened the score, JMU responded with a 4-0 run during a 13-minute span to take a 13-9 advantage with 5:16 on the clock.

Shortly thereafter, W&M narrowed the margin to just two with a pair of goals by Mackrides. The first score came off an assist from Salmon at the 3:49 mark, while the second was on an 8-meter opportunity just 1:03 later.

The Tribe was unable to get any closer, however, as JMU added two more goals in the closing minutes for the final margin.

James Madison held a 16-12 advantage in draw controls and a 15-11 edge in ground balls.

JMU was led by six players who recorded multi-goal efforts, while Monica Zabel totaled a team-high four points on two goals and two assists.

The Tribe will close out its regular-season home slate when it hosts George Mason for Senior Day on Sunday at 1 p.m.
