WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Junior
Chaney Manganello scored just over five minutes into
overtime as the No. 21-ranked William and Mary field hockey team tallied its
10th victory of the season, downing Towson, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at
Busch Field. The Green and Gold, which improved to 3-2 in CAA play, generated 33
shots and 18 penalty corners offensively on the way to four goals in the
victory.
After continually pressuring the Towson goal in the
overtime period, W&M finally cashed one in off a penalty corner in the 76th
minute. Senior
Maria Caro found Manganello on the right side, and the Tribe
junior finished with a hard shot into the right side boards for her first goal
of the season, giving the College the 4-3 triumph.
Towson came roaring out of the gates to start the match, getting on the
scoreboard just 59 seconds into the match on Kesley Fielder's first goal of the
season. W&M answered in the fifth minute on senior
Allison Moran's fifth

who pushed the ball across to tie the game at 1-1.
Just 36 seconds later, the Tigers found the back of the cage

the circle. Hopkins dribbled straight toward the Towson goalkeeper before
laying off to sophomore

side boards to pull W&M even at the 19:38 mark.

time at 3-2 with her fourth goal of the season. Junior
Taylor Hodge set up the
score as she dribbled into the center of the area, before
sending it toward the left post. Saunders was waiting unmarked and easily
finished to give the College the lead at the 22:09 mark.
Despite continuing to rack up the shots and penalty corners in the second half,
the Green and Gold could not increase it lead before Towson pulled even to send the game to overtime. With its second penalty corner
of the game and second shot of the second half, the Tigers finally pulled even.
Kate Nolan took the penalty corner and sent it short to the left side of the
circle, where Heather Jenney rifled a shot inside the near post at the 65:47
mark.
