The William and Mary field hockey fell on the road at Towson Sunday afternoon, 3-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up. The Tribe is now 6-6 overall and 1-4 in league play, while the Tigers improved to 7-6, 2-3 in the CAA.
The highlight of the afternoon for the Tribe was freshman
Emma Clifton's (Loomberah, NSW, Australia) third goal of the season in the 54th minute. With the College down 2-0, Clifton wove through the Towson defense and powered her third shot of the game past the Tigers goalie and into the backboard, cutting the deficit to one and giving her team the chance to climb back into the game. With three goals and four assists so far in 2011, Clifton and
Jesse Ebner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) (4g, 2a) give W&M two freshmen with at least 10 points in the same season for the first time since 1980.
William and Mary returns home next week to kickoff a four-match homestand over the final five games of the regular season. Stepping out of the CAA for the weekend, the Tribe will host No. 8 Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m., and Virginia Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
