WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
The William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team dropped a tough, 1-0 match on the
road Tuesday night, falling to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem,
North Carolina. With the loss, the College
falls to 8-8 on the season, while Wake improves to 8-6-2 on the year.
In the first half, the story for William and Mary was the
play of senior goalkeeper Colin Smolinsky, who made three saves in the opening
45 minutes. Wake out shot the Tribe,
6-2, in the back-and-forth first half, with the Demon Deacons getting three
shots on goal to one for W&M.
The best chance for a Tribe goal in the first half came in the
38th minute. On the attack, junior Ben
Anderson fired a shot on goal, but his chance was saved by the Wake goalie,
keeping the score even at 0-0.
The match appeared destined for overtime before Wake Forest
was able to net a goal. After a Tribe
giveaway, the Demon Deacons capitalized.
WF's Sean Okoll took a pass from Luciano Delbono and scored from 14
yards away, giving Wake Forest a lead they wouldn't surrender.
Senior Nicolas Abrigo led William and Mary with three shots
on the night, while Anderson took two, getting one on target. Sophomore Chris Perez had a shot on goal as
well, while freshman Marcus Luster took one shot.
The William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team will return to
Williamsburg this weekend to host the Hofstra Pride on Saturday, October
29. Kickoff at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly
Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live stats and live audio available at
