Despite a strong defensive effort Saturday night, the William and Mary volleyball team fell 3-0 to visiting James Madison at Kaplan Arena. The Tribe is now 8-13 on the year and 2-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Dukes improved their league-best record to 17-6 and 7-2 in conference play.
The Tribe had three players in double-digit digs on the night, led by sophomore libero
Celine Alasomuka (Centreville, Va.) with 16. Redshirt-freshman
Paulette Grand Pre (Laguna Beach, Calif.) nearly had her second double-double of the weekend, scoring a team-high nine kills to go with her 12 digs, two blocks, and an ace. Freshman
Manon Murray (Greensboro, N.C.) also had 12 digs, and added a pair of blocks.
Also of note was the defensive play of the Tribe's middles, led by the duo of
Alexandra Ciaccio (Houston, Texas) and
Monika Stanciauskas (Wheaton, Ill.). Both had three blocks on the night, with one of Stanciauskas' coming on an outstanding solo effort. Junior
Shaylin O'Connell (Leesburg, Va.) also had a hand in a pair of blocks.
William and Mary hits the road for the first time in three weeks with a two-match swing next weekend, heading to Northeastern on Friday at 7 p.m. and taking on Hofstra Saturday night, also at 7 p.m.
