The William and Mary men's cross country team hosted the 2011 Tribe Open on Saturday, welcoming individual runners from three colleges and several unattached competitors to Eastern State Hospital for an early-morning 8K race. The title went to unattached runner Everett Hackett, who cleared the course in 24:56.
Leading the way for the Tribe was redshirt-sophomore Zach Tennant (Fairview, W.Va.), who took second in 25:16. John Muller (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) was five seconds back in fourth, and Liam Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, Mass.) took sixth in 25:38. Redshirt-freshmen Andrew Ryan (Gloucester, Mass.) and Joshua Mercado (Citrus Heights, Calif.) crossed in eighth (25:47) and ninth (25:50), respectively, and classmate David Gunnerson (Yorktown, Va.) was 18th.
William and Mary's next meet will be in two weeks, as the Tribe tries to win the Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the 12th year in a row. The race on Oct. 29 will be hosted by Georgia State.
