WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Oct. 15, 2011) - Senior All-American running back Jonathan Grimes became William and Mary's all-time rushing leader and senior defensive end Marcus Hyde set a single-game school record with five sacks, as the No. 16/15 Tribe earned a 24-10 victory against sixth-ranked New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at Zable Stadium.

Needing 145 rushing yards to eclipse Derek Fitzgerald's W&M career record of 3,744, Grimes piled up a career-high 169 yards on 28 carries to increase his career total to 3,768. The Palmyra, N.J., native also hauled in three catches for 126 yards, which included touchdown receptions of 72 yards and 50 yards, as he registered 323 all-purpose yards - just one shy of the single-game school record he established against Villanova in 2008.

Hyde also etched his name in the program's record book with one of the best individual defensive performances in school history, totaling a single-game school-record five sacks to go with six tackles for a loss, nine solo tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

Making just his second career start, sophomore quarterback Brent Caprio completed 7-of-11 passes for 167 yards with a pair of scores, while redshirt freshman running back Keith McBride rushed for 68 yards on nine carries and broke off a 50-yard touchdown scamper early in the fourth quarter. Defensively, junior linebacker Jabrel Mines posted a team-high 13 tackles and had two of the Tribe's season-best 12 tackles for a loss. The Doswell, Va., native also had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, which came on a strip that halted the Wildcats' opening drive. Sophomore safety Jerome Couplin III and redshirt freshman safety Ivan Tagoe both recorded interceptions.

Although UNH (4-2, 2-1) outgained the Tribe (4-3, 2-2), 517-429, the Wildcats committed four turnovers (two fumbles, two interceptions). Quarterback Kevin Decker accounted for most of UNH's offense and completed 34-of-50 passes for a career-high 422 yards with a touchdown. Wideout Joey Orlando totaled eight catches for 132 yards, while wideout Mickey Mangieri hauled in eight receptions for 100 yards.

New Hampshire had multiple scoring opportunities early in the contest, but placekicker Mike MacArthur missed a 27-yard field goal late in opening quarter and the Tribe stopped UNH on downs early in the second quarter. The fourth-down stop came on a fourth-and-3 at W&M's 22-yard line when Hyde registered the first of his five sacks.

Despite the slow start offensively on both sides, the teams combined for 17 points in the final 2:30 of the opening half. The Wildcats struck first with a 37-yard field goal by MacArthur. W&M then quickly answered on its ensuing drive when Grimes took a short screen pass from Caprio 72 yards down the Tribe sideline, breaking multiple tackles along the way, to give the College a 7-3 lead with 1:35 left in the first half.

UNH responded with a quick touchdown drive of its own, however, as Decker drove the Wildcats 90 yards on just eight plays on a drive that culminated with a 15-yard touchdown strike to a leaping R.J. Harris in the left side of the end zone with 0:08 showing on the clock.

Although W&M limited UNH to just 25 rushing yards (on 22 carries) in the first half, the Wildcats threw for 289 yards and outgained the Tribe, 314-183.  Individually, Hyde already had four sacks at the intermission, which broke the previous single-game sack record of 3.5 set by Luke Cullinane against Villanova in 1996.

After stopping UNH on downs at the Tribe 31-yard line on the Wildcats' opening drive of the second half, W&M went ahead, 14-10, when Caprio connected with Grimes on a short screen pass that the All-American running back took 50 yards into the end zone midway through the third quarter.

An interception by Tagoe halted a UNH drive inside the red zone late in the third quarter, and six plays later McBride broke off a 50-yard touchdown run to extend the margin to 21-10 with 12:42 remaining.

Sophomore placekicker Drake Kuhn provided the final score of the contest with a career-long 45-yard field goal with 6:06 left on the clock.

New Hampshire's comeback bid ended on the following drive when senior cornerback Terrell Wells recovered a fumbled lateral by Orlando at W&M's 24-yard line.

The Tribe will return to action next weekend when it hosts No. 17/23 Towson for homecoming on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
