The Tribe was led on the night by senior
Ginny Bray (Cary, N.C.), who scored 11 kills and a match-high five blocks. Classmate
Cassie Crumal (Castle Rock, Colo.) had 32 assists and eight digs, and
Lindsay Kresch (Moon Township, pa.) scored seven kills despite coming on only late in the second set. Freshman
Celine Alasomuka (Centreville, Va.) had 13 digs and a pair of service aces, while sophomore
Gina Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) had a team-high 14 digs to go with nine kills.
The Tribe was in control of the first set early, using an 8-2 run to jump in front 14-10 and extending out to a 17-13 lead. A change in setter revitalized the Tigers, however, and they pulled out a 10-2 run to take the lead and set up a 25-20 victory. The second set stayed tight through the first half, with 11 ties and three lead changes until Lang scored a kill to cut Towson's lead to a single point at 14-15. Once again, however, Towson was able to create an extended run of 8-3, and reached 23-17. The Green and Gold responded with a 5-1 run of its own, including two of
Erin Skipper's (Yorktown, Va.) eight kills on the night, and cut the lead to 22-24 before the Tigers were able to collect the final point of the set.
Coming out of the intermission, a 6-1 run by Towson was answered immediately with an 8-1 streak by the College, putting the home team on top 13-9 after back-to-back kills by Bray and Kresch. The Tigers climbed right back on top after a 12-4 run, and the Tribe called a timeout to plan its response. Coming back onto the court, Lang scored a quick kill and Bray and Crumal combined for a block to cut the lead to two, and after a Towson kill, Bray and Kresch added to their nightly kill totals to cut the lead to a single point at 21-22. The visitors responded with another kill before Kresch's sixth of the night cut the lad again to 22-23, and the sequence repeated to put the Tribe facing match-point at 23-24. Off of Crumal's serve, Lang made a spectacular dig on Towson's first attack, but the ball went back over to give the Tigers a second chance that they would finally convert to close out the match.
William and Mary hosts Delaware tomorrow night at 7 p.m., in the season's final match at Kaplan Arena. Before the first serve, the Tribe will take a moment to recognize its four graduating seniors.
