SACRAMENTO, CA - For the fourth consecutive year, the William and Mary men's track and field team will have an individual compete in the 5,000m run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Sophomore
Christo Landry (Falls Church, VA) was selected to the national championship field after placing ninth at the East Regional over the weekend. His seed time of 13:53.62 was set one month ago, at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational, and places him tenth in the field.
This is the second year that Landry has been asked to race at the NCAA meet. Last season, he earned an at-large bid as well, after finishing ninth in the East Regional. He went on the finish 18th at the NCAAs. Landry ranks sixth all-time at William and Mary in the 5,000m , only two-hundredths of a second behind Ron Martin '74 for fifth place (13:53.60). Landry will also be looking to become the 16th track and field athlete in Tribe history to earn multiple All-American honors. He was previously named an All-American when he finished 38th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships as a freshman.
The NCAA Championships are being held this year at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex, in Sacramento, California. Sacramento State and the Sacramento Sports Commission are co-hosting the event June 7-10. The men's 5,000m run will be have preliminaries on Wednesday, June 7, at 11:30 PM (EST), and finals on Friday, June 9, at 10:30 PM (EST). The top six finishers from each of two preliminary sections plus the next four fastest times will advance to the finals, where the top eight finishers in the final race will be named All-Americans.
