Two Future W&M Men's Basketball Players Compete at Virginia All-Star Game

HAMPTON, VA - Two of William and Mary's incoming men's basketball recruits played against each other one final time at the Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star Game, held July 12 at the Hampton Coliseum. Guard Calvin Baker (Newport News, VA) recently graduated from Woodside High School and led the East team to a 90-85 victory over a West team that included his future teammate, Chris Darnell (Fredericksburg, VA), who graduated from North Stafford High School.

Baker was named the game's most valuable player, leading all scorers with 20 points, including four three-pointers. A two-time Daily Press Player of the Year, Baker was selected as the 2005 Virginia Group AAA Player of the Year by the VHSCA and was named the state's Co-Player of the Year by the Associated Press. Darnell, an AP all-state second team selection, scored nine points for the West team in the game.

The Tribe will open the 2005-06 season on November 18 and 19 with the Second Annual W&M Tip-Off Classic, which will also include High Point, Holy Cross and Maine.
