Tribe Volleyball Earns Several All-CAA Awards

HEMPSTEAD, NY - William and Mary volleyball players Kim Mount (Corte Madera, CA), Kathleen Hawley (Rolling Hills Estates, CA), Caitlin Geraghty (King's Park, NY) and Kate Woffindin (Allentown, PA) as well as head coach Debbie Hill were honored by the CAA this evening on the eve of the 2005 CAA Volleyball Tournament hosted by Hofstra University.

Mount was named the Rookie of the Year and to the All-Rookie team after putting together a solid season that saw her earn CAA Rookie of the Week accolades five times, including a three-week stretch of consecutive awards. The setter currently stands second among the conference averaging 11.55 assists per game. She is the first Tribe player since 2001 to earn top rookie honors, when current senior Carly Huffman (Simi Valley, CA) earned Co-Rookie honors.

Hawley earned Defensive Specialist of the Year recognition after recording a school-record 598 digs so far this season. She currently leads the CAA in digs (5.34 dpg) and is ranked 26th in Division I in the same category. The junior was ranked as high as 24th in the nation in digs per game earlier this season. She is the first Tribe player to earn this award since Kerri-Ann Grosso, now an assistant coach at James Madison, earned it after the 2000 season.

Hill picked up her fifth CAA Coach of the Year honor and her first since 1995 after leading the Tribe to a second-place finish in the CAA with a 15-3 league record. The Tribe's overall record of 22-8 marks the 12th time that she has guided the team to at least 20 wins in a season. Earlier this season, Hill led the Tribe to a season high eight-game winning streak and 15 victories in the last 16 matches.

Geraghty became the first Tribe player since 2001 to earn a spot on the All-CAA first-team after leading the CAA with a 1.31 blocks per game average. She also second in the league in hitting percentage at a .362 clip, which is on pace to break the single-season school record.

Woffindin was honored as part of the league's second-team after leading the Tribe offense with 356 kills, which is ninth in the CAA. She is also ranked fifth in points with a 3.89 per game average. Her 1,072 total attacks is the third-highest single-season total in school history.

The Tribe (22-8, 15-3 CAA), which is the second seed and received a first-round bye in the tournament, enters play on Saturday as winners of seven-straight and 15 of its last 16. They will face either Towson or James Madison Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
