WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Campbell (10-3, 2-0 CAA) secured a straight-sets victory over William & Mary (5-8, 0-2 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena, with scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-21.
William & Mary began the first set with
Damisi Osibodu and
Beatriz Silva contributing early with a block and a kill, respectively, to keep the score level at 2-2. The team showed resilience as Osibodu added another block to counter Campbell's attempts to pull away. However, Campbell responded with a strong offensive push, driven by Hailey Heytvelt's multiple kills, expanding their lead significantly.
Despite the challenging middle section of the set, the Tribe managed to put up points through the efforts of
Katherine Arnason and
Audrey Brcka, who each secured kills. Additionally, the Green and Gold capitalized on a Campbell service error and added a service ace from Silva, trimming the deficit slightly. The set concluded with Campbell maintaining control, ending at a 25-16 advantage over W&M.
William & Mary showed resilience in the second set, maintaining competitive play against Campbell. Early in the set,
Nicole Smith and
Devereaux Hoxsie each contributed crucial kills, keeping the score tight. Despite a service error and attack errors, the Tribe managed to capitalize on opponent mistakes, with
Olivia Westfort and Arnason teaming up for significant blocks.
However, Campbell gained momentum midway through, extending their lead despite strong defensive efforts from the Green and Gold. Late in the set, Brcka and Smith added kills to reduce the deficit, but Campbell secured the set with a 25-21 win.
In the third set, W&M started strong with a decisive service run by Smith, including two consecutive aces, pushing the score to 5-1. A key block by Osibodu later extended their lead to 5-1. Campbell responded with a series of kills, notably from Abbie Tuyo, which allowed them to close the gap.
Mid-set, William & Mary capitalized on Campbell's errors, pulling ahead 12-10 with a kill by Smith. However, Campbell regained momentum, tying the score at 14-14 with a block from Gwen Wolkow and Maddie Lambers.
Despite a late effort including a service ace from Hoxsie, Campbell maintained their advantage with consistent attacking, sealing the set with a 25-21 victory.
