WILLIAMSBURG, VA - William and Mary senior wideout
Rich Musinski (West Pittston, PA) led a group of five Tribe players that were named to the Atlantic 10's preseason all-conference teams. Also joining Musinski as first team selections were fellow seniors
Marques Bobo (Charlotte, NC) and
Billy Parker (Mechanicsville, VA). Named to the second team were junior tailback
Jon Smith (Cincinnati, OH) and senior linebacker
Paul Carpenter (Winchester, VA).
William and Mary was picked to finish seventh in the 11-team league. Since the Atlantic 10 adopted a one-division format in 1999, a team predicted seventh or lower has claimed at least a share of the league title in each of the past four years. Last year, Northeastern won the league after being tabbed as the 10th best team in the league in the preseason.
Musinski, a co-captain, is W&M's all-time leader in receiving yards with 3,280, and enters his senior campaign with many other school, conference and national receiving marks within reasonable reach. Bobo and Parker anchor the Tribe's defensive backfield, and both have won multiple all-conference accolades in the past. Parker led the league in passes defended in 2002. Smith has rushed for 22 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the Tribe, and led the squad with 838 rushing yards last season. Carpenter is the squad's leading returning tackler, coming off of a junior season in which he made 80 stops.
The Tribe will kick off the season on Sept. 6 at Division I-A opponent Western Michigan, a member of the Mid-American Conference. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Waldo Stadium.
