Fernando Rodriguez is in his third season as an assistant swimming
coach for the Tribe swimming teams in 2011-12, serving as the program's recruiting coordinator and being primarily responsible for the training of the stroke and IM groups.
During his first two years with W&M, Rodriguez' athletes have set 14 school and eight freshman records, while earning three all-conference honors. At the 2011 CAA Championships, Julia Applebaum '11 set four school records in a single day, and freshman Andrew Strait had seven freshman records over the three-day meet.
Rodriguez came to the College in the summer of 2009 with six years of coaching experience,
including serving as the assistant senior coach and head masters' coach with the Athens Bulldogs Swim Club in Georgia. In his first year out of college, Rodriguez was the assistant coach at Wabash College in 2004-05.
Rodriguez graduated from Kenyon College in 2004 with a degree in
anthropology, and went on to earn his master’s degree in kinesiology
from the University of Georgia. As a student-athlete at Kenyon,
Rodriguez was a seven-time NCAA All-American and a four-time All-NCAC
honoree. He was also part of four NCAA D-III national championship
teams.
