Chad Marshall spent two seasons as a member of the Tribe baseball staff. He joined the staff after a season as the director of baseball operation at his alma mater Stony Brook.
Â
During the 2017 season, Marshall helped to Tribe record its fifth 30-plus win season in the previous six years. A third-place finish in the CAA standings allowed W&M to make its fifth consecutive postseason appearance, which is a program-best since qualifying started for the CAA Baseball Tournament. With his assistance, the Green and Gold landed five players on the all-conference teams, highlighted by junior Cullen Large receiving All-CAA First Team accolades. Furthermore, senior Ryder Miconi repeated as CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year, while All-CAA second teamer Brandon Raquet was named to Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman All-American Team. W&M also had a draft class of three or more players for the fifth time in program history. Redshirt sophomore Nick Raquet became the third-highest all-time MLB draft pick by getting selected in the third round by the Washington Nationals, Large was chosen in the fifth round by the Toronto Blue Jays and senior Nick Brown was picked in the 32nd round by the Minnesota Twins. It’s the second time in program history that two players were taken inside the first five rounds of the MLB Draft.Â
Last year, he helped Stony Brook to a 27-27 record and a berth into the American East Championship game. Seven players were named to the All-America East team under Marshall’s guidance. Aside from in-game help, Marshall assisted with fundraising, travel accommodations, recruiting trips on campus, field maintenance, and equipment.
Â
Prior to his time at Stony Brook, he was the executive director of baseball operations at Fort McMurray Minor Baseball. There he oversaw the year round program that involved nearly 500 kids from ages 4-18. Marshall was also responsible for the hiring and development of coaching staffs, development of athletes, and the grounds crew and facility management. He also taught physical education classes at Father Patrick Mercredi Community High School in Fort McMurray.
Â
Marshall had an outstanding playing career at Stony Brook where he was a four-year starter. He was a four-time All-America East selection, was a Freshman All-American, and graduated as the school’s all-time hits leader. He also was a member of his native Canada’s national team in the World University Games in Tokyo, Japan in 2010, where he was selected to the all-tournament team.
Â
He graduated from SBU with a degree in biology and sociology in the summer of 2012. Marshall married the former Taryn Schoenbeck in September of 2015.
