Futa graduated with a degree in neuroscience in three years and after working for a year has returned to William and Mary as a PhD candidate in the neuroscience graduate program…During his third year of competition, Futa received the most improved gymnast award at the 2012 ECAC Championships…He also earned USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-American honors in the all-around as well as on the parallel bars…While moving into fifth place in the all-time William and Mary records in the all-around and 10th place on both pommel horse and the rings, Futa finished his third season as the Tribe’s number two team point scorer… In addition to competing in the NCAA Championships on both pommel horse and parallel bars, Futa is a certified EMT and a Junior Olympic judge… He is the son of Ike and Keiko Ikeda and competed for Bob Gauthier at Arete Gymnastics… Futa’s return brings a creative style of gymnastics as well as an immediate energy to the gym’s atmosphere.
