NCAA Compliance
The Compliance Office would like to thank you for your continued support of the William & Mary Athletic Department. As we move towards a new level of excellence, we always seek the highest standard of ethical conduct and compliance with all NCAA, Colonial Athletic Association, and Institutional rules. As a vital member of the Tribe, your assistance in preventing violations of the rules plays an important role in supporting our athletics program. Go Tribe!
Prospective Student-Athletes
A prospective student-athlete is anyone who has entered the ninth grade (seventh grade for men's basketball). Please remember, it is important to leave the recruiting to the coaching staffs of W&M Athletics. Getting involved without consent from the Compliance Office could jeopardize the eligibility of the prospective student-athlete. W&M Athletics is responsible for the actions of its boosters and fans and is always available to answer any questions regarding permissible recruiting activities.
Extra Benefits
An extra benefit is any special gift or arrangement provided to a student-athlete, or student-athlete's friend or family member, that is not available to the general W&M student body or the general population.
Examples of impermissible extra benefits include, but are not limited to:
· Cash or loans in any amount, or signing or cosigning for a loan
· Gifts of any kind, including birthday and holiday gifts
· Free or reduced-cost services such as car repairs, haircuts, travel services, etc
· The use of an automobile
· A ride, on or off campus, except to an occasional home meal
· Free rent, or reduced rent, housing
· Tickets or special seating to an athletics or community event
· Course supplies, typing or copying costs
· Employing relatives or friends of a PSA as an incentive to enroll at W&M
· Entertaining a PSA or a PSA's family or legal guardian on or off campus.
Recruiting Inducement:
A recruiting inducement under NCAA rules is any special gift or arrangement provided to a prospective student-athlete that is not available to the general population. The arrangement of such a benefit would be considered an improper inducement to encourage the eventual enrollment of a prospective student-athlete at W&M.
Social Media Reminders:
Boosters/Fans may follow or friend recruits on social media platforms. However, Boosters/Fans should NEVER post on a recruit's "wall," reply to a "tweet," send them any kind of direct message, or take any other action that would constitute contacting any recruit. Coaches are the only people allowed to recruit for W&M.
