Women's Soccer Facilities

Take a peek at some of the facilities we work in everyday as part of the Tribe women's soccer team.

Martin Family Stadium

Lightening at Martin Family Stadium

On August 28, 2004, William and Mary officially dedicated Albert-Daly Field, the College's new grass facility for soccer and lacrosse. Longtime athletic benefactors Jim and Bobbie Ukrop (classes of '60 and '61, respectively) spearheaded the creation of the new field with a $500,000 challenge grant and suggested the facility honor longtime men's soccer coach Al Albert (now working with the Tribe Club after coaching for 33 years) and 18-year head women's soccer coach John Daly, who also served for six years as an assistant men's coach. As graduates of William and Mary, Jim and Bobbie Ukrop have long been generous supporters of the College and have touched the lives of thousands of students, both in the athletics department and general college community, with their philanthropy. The $1 million natural grass field is adjacent to W&M's baseball stadium, Plumeri Park, located at the College's Dillard complex.

The Tribe received yet another facility upgrade in the spring of 2011. The new stadium - the Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field - named in honor of Eff and Patty Martin, and their children, Andrew, Christine and Julia '09 - is a 1,000-seat pavilion, which features a state-of-the-art press box, filming positions and restroom facilities.

Locker Room (Kaplan Arena)

Womens Soccer Kaplan Arena Locker Room

Our 2018 locker room renovation stands as a testament to the unrivaled commitment and support from our 350+ person Tribe of alumni.  It was during our "Tribe35" reunion (the largest ever alumni gathering in 2017 to commemorate 35 years of the program) that our alumni responded to the need of updating our locker room by collectively pledging $135,000 during the course of the weekend.

The money was used to install beautiful mahogany lockers and new carpeting, as well as the addition of a mounted smart TV, refrigerator, and built in cabinets for laundry, food, and storage.  The final touches were added spring of 2020 when we installed floor to ceiling graphics honoring all of our program's top players, including a life size image of our own Jill Ellis '88 showing off her second World Cup Trophy.

The end result achieved our objective of providing an incredibly inviting and comfortable space for our players to change, shower or simply hang out and relax.

Weight Room (Kaplan Arena)

Strength and Conditioning

The Joseph W. Montgomery Strength Training Center is located on the lower level of Kaplan Arena. This 5,000-square-foot facility contains 16,000 lbs. of free weights, 10,000 pounds of dumbbells, and 7,500 pounds of bumper plates. In addition, it contains 24 Olympic stations, 18 power racks, 18 multipurpose power racks, 22 dumbell stations and a fully-equipped plyometric area.

This state-of-art center was made through the generosity of Joseph W. Montgomery. Joe Montgomery '74 enjoyed a stellar career at William and Mary. At 6-3, 240 pounds, Joe started as a sophomore for the Indians at offensive center. That year he helped pave the way for Southern Conference Athlete of the year Phil Mosser. He earned all-conference honors as a junior and repeated as a senior when he captained the Tribe. He also earned All-ECAC honors that year and third team All-America laurels. Montgomery was selected to play in the Blue-Gray game in January after his senior year. He continued to play professionally for the WFL Charlotte Hornets in 1975 and was inducted into the W&M Hall of Fame in 1985. In the 1971 media guide, then head coach Lou Holtz said, "Joe, although only a sophomore, has excellent potential to be a fine center." Joe now lives in Williamsburg with his wife Linda and their two children Joseph and Madeline.

The John Sauer Speed and Conditioning Room, a 2,500-square-foot training area, was added in 2010 and expanded the Tribe's total training area to approximately 8,500 square feet.

William & Mary Athletics Complex

Rendering of the Rennovated Kaplan Arena

The university unveiled plans in February of 2020 for a reimagined William & Mary Athletics Complex. The plans will revitalize Kaplan Arena and establish a new state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center. The complex, which is largely funded through private support, will enable all student-athletes to boldly pursue excellence — raising their athletics experiences at William & Mary to the caliber and prominence of their academic experiences.

The $57-million project will transform the game-day experience for the entire William & Mary community, advance excellence in all 23 varsity sports programs and enhance the university's facilities. The majority of funds have been provided by leadership gifts from Katie Garrett Boehly '95 and Todd Boehly '96, as well as Jennifer Tepper Mackesy '91 (women's soccer alumnae) and D. Scott Mackesy '91. Learn more about the project by clicking here.
