MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to serve as a vehicle to promote communication between the athletic administration and student-athletes by providing a student-athlete voice within the department, discussing issues and concerns and providing feedback as necessary. SAAC also serves in a leadership role recruiting fellow student-athletes to serve the campus and the surrounding community through a variety of service programs and events.

W&M ATHLETICS CORE VALUES
SAAC members must exemplify the core values of William & Mary Athletics. As leaders representing each athletic team, the standard for valued and principled action is risen. All members must hold these values strongly on and off campus. The values are:

• ACCOUNTABILITY: Take ownership and responsibility for your actions
• BELONGING: Welcome, respect and value individual differences while providing a save, healthy and inclusive environment in which all have the opportunity to thrive
• CREATIVITY: Foster a spirit of collaboration and curiosity to achieve
• INTEGRITY: Always do the right thing
• SERVICE: Give of ourselves for the benefit of others

WHO WE ARE
SAAC is comprised of two representatives from each of William & Mary’s 22 athletic teams. Throughout the course of the year, we meet bi-weekly and serve as liaisons between the William & Mary Athletic Department, student-athletes, and coaches.

The student-athletic community is strengthened each year through a combination of athlete social events, friendly team competitions, and immersive experiences with outside speakers. We hope for these events to strengthen ties between teams, foster relationships, and to create cohesion between different parts of the athletic department. We also engage at the regional and national levels, coordinating with SAAC chapters at other universities within the CAA and helping to influence NCAA legislation that affects student athletes across the country.

MEMBERSHIP

Each sport or representative group has one vote in matters before the Committee. Representatives serve a one-year term and are eligible to serve multiple terms. Two representatives from each team and the cheerleading squad are elected or appointed to serve.

All student-athletes and cheerleaders in good standing on their squads or teams are eligible for membership on SAAC. All interested persons are encouraged to be involved, but each should carefully consider his/her academic and athletic responsibilities before making the additional commitment to serve on the SAAC. Meetings are held twice a month on Tuesday nights.

OFFICERS

Service, Social, and Public Relations. Other leadership positions include serving as event chairs, liaisons to campus partners such as the Career Center and leading projects such as Tribe Tutors. Two representatives are selected each year to represent the W&M-SAAC on the CAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The CAA-SAAC provides an opportunity for student athletes from the conference schools to offer input to the Conference Office regarding policies that effect student athletes, and to serve as a link to the NCAA-SAAC. Conference SAAC representatives attend a two-day CAA meeting each fall. The SAAC elects officers for the academic year.
