WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary women's soccer scored three first-half goals and junior goalkeeper Mia Tegeris recorded the first shutout of her collegiate career as the Tribe rolled to a 4-0 CAA victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
Sophomore Sophia Dallara and freshman Kerys Palmer each scored the first goals of their collegiate careers, while sophomore Mia Abbey and freshman Ava Magnuson also found the back of the net for the Green and Gold.
Brooke Oswald finished with two assists, while Abbey, Ella Ledwith and Palmer each added a helper. Palmer's three-point afternoon marked the first multi-point performance of her career.
W&M improved to 2-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in CAA play with its first home victory of the season. Drexel fell to 5-5-1 and 1-2 in league action.
The Tribe controlled the match offensively, outshooting the Dragons, 19-5, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. W&M also held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Tegeris stopped both shots she faced while playing all 90 minutes to secure the clean sheet.
First Half
William & Mary controlled the opening half, outshooting Drexel, 11-1, and putting six attempts on frame.
The Tribe broke through in the 22nd minute. Abbey set up Magnuson, who found the back of the net at 21:02 to give W&M a 1-0 advantage.
The goal was Magnuson's second of the season and gave Abbey her third assist.
W&M doubled its lead just over eight minutes later. Ledwith found Abbey, who scored at the 29:26 mark to push the advantage to 2-0. Abbey's goal was her team-leading fourth of the season and increased her team-best point total to 11.
The Tribe wasn't finished.
Dallara scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 37th minute off assists from Palmer and Oswald, giving W&M a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime. The assist was Palmer's second of the season.
Tegeris faced just one shot in the opening half, denying Drexel's Jaida Manderson in the 16th minute to keep the Dragons off the board.
Second Half
William & Mary continued to generate opportunities after halftime. Abbey put shots on goal in the 63rd and 68th minutes, but Drexel goalkeeper Gracie Sullivan turned away both attempts.
The Tribe added its fourth goal at 73:50. Oswald picked up her second assist of the afternoon, setting up Palmer with the header for the freshman's first collegiate goal and a 4-0 W&M advantage.
Drexel generated four shots after halftime, but Tegeris and the Tribe defense preserved the shutout. Tegeris made her second save of the afternoon in the 54th minute, stopping Cam Schuler's attempt.
Abbey led W&M with six shots, including three on goal, and finished with a goal and an assist. Palmer recorded three shots, putting two on frame, to go along with a goal and an assist. Wilson and Ledwith added two shots apiece.
The four-goal performance increased W&M's season total to 17. Abbey leads the Tribe with four goals, three assists and 11 points, while Magnuson moved into a tie for third on the team with five points on two goals and an assist.
Tegeris improved to 2-3-1 on the season and lowered her goals-against average to 1.29. She has recorded 26 saves in 630 minutes of action.
