WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Freshman Ava Magnuson scored twice in the first half to lead William & Mary women's soccer to a 2-1 CAA victory over Campbell on Friday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
Magnuson recorded the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career, scoring in the 24th and 31st minutes to give the Tribe a 2-0 halftime advantage. Sophomore Mia Abbey, senior Paige Seitz and freshman Ashley DeLeo each recorded assists.
The victory gave W&M back-to-back wins for the first time this season and improved the Tribe to 3-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in CAA play. It also marked William & Mary's first victory over Campbell since the Camels joined the CAA and its first in the series since an 8-0 win in Williamsburg in 1998.
Magnuson continued her recent surge with her third goal over the last two matches and fourth over the last four. The freshman has moved into a tie for the team lead with four goals this season and ranks second on the Tribe with nine points.
Campbell (3-6-4, 0-2-2 CAA) pulled within one early in the second half on Gillian Garrison's goal, but W&M held the Camels off the board over the final 40 minutes to secure the victory.
Campbell finished with a 14-12 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks, while W&M put five shots on goal compared to three for the Camels. Junior goalkeeper Mia Tegeris played all 90 minutes and made two saves.

The freshman nearly completed a first-half hat trick less than two minutes later, putting another attempt on frame that Campbell goalkeeper Anais van Doesburg turned away.
W&M carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting Campbell, 6-5, over the opening 45 minutes.
Second Half

The Green and Gold defense held firm down the stretch as Campbell generated three attempts over the final 20 minutes but was unable to find the equalizer.
