WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary field hockey fell to Richmond 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Busch Field.
The Tribe (1-5) scored both of its goals in the third quarter and finished with six shots, including four on goal, while the Spiders (6-2) put nine of their 22 shots on frame.
Sam Daly broke open the scoring for W&M at the 38:53 mark, converting on an assist from
Josie Mae Gruendel that made it a 4-1 game. It was Daly's first goal of the season.
Later at the 43:23 of the third,
Lauren McManus converted on a penalty-stroke for her first marker of the year.
The Spiders were led by a hat trick from Clara Larripa, who scored her first goal in the opening quarter before adding two more in the third.
Malena Magnano and Avery Russell were the other goal scorers for Richmond, who struck twice in the first quarter and added three more in the third to separate for a 5-2 win.
Alexandra de Jesus finished with four saves in 60 minutes for the Tribe.
