Volleyball Drops CAA Opener to Stony Brook

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary suffered a 3-0 setback to Stony Brook in the CAA opener on Friday evening at Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe (4-6, 0-1 CAA) built early separation in the first set, moving ahead 10-7 during Ava Crabtree's serve and later 12-8 on a Katherine Arnason kill from Cate Hatfield.

The Seawolves (7-4, 1-0) answered to tie the set at 12-12, and W&M later went back in front 19-18 on a Teagan Pocius kill. The visitors closed the set from there, taking it 25-22 after the Green and Gold pulled within 24-22 on an Olivia Westfort kill.

In the second set, consecutive Westfort kills pulled W&M within 10-9, but a later stretch of three straight attack errors stretched the Seawolves' lead to 18-12. Emily McKee added a kill and a service ace, and Audrey Brcka and the Hatfield-Pocius block produced late points before the Seawolves finished the set 25-19.
