Field Hockey's Comeback Against Georgetown Falls Short

RICHMOND, Va. — A valiant comeback effort fell just short as William & Mary field hockey lost to Georgetown 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at the University of Richmond's Crenshaw Field.

The Tribe (1-4) scored both of its goals in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter and put four of its five shots on goal, but Georgetown (3-3) held on for the win.

Alexandra de Jesus started the game in goal for the Tribe and made one save. Emma Cari played the second half and stopped four Georgetown shots.

The Hoyas netted two goals in the first quarter, both in the opening six minutes, before another at 15:27 of the second quarter to go ahead 3-0.

In the fourth, Lily Johnson scored the Tribe's first goal on her lone shot attempt at the 55:27 mark, with Lauren McManus making with the assist. With twenty seconds remaining, Ava Rossman added another goal to make it 3-2.

Callia Uviedo recorded two shots for W&M.

The Tribe returns home on Sunday, Sep. 20 to face Richmond. The action gets underway at noon from Busch Field.
