WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its home slate with a 10-8 setback against Campbell on Senior Day at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
W&M (7-8, 2-4) owned a 7-5 advantage after three quarters, but CU (10-6, 1-5) closed the contest by scoring five of the final six goals during the final 15 minutes to secure the conference victory.
The Tribe got on the scoreboard first with a goal by
Finley Hoffman early in first quarter, but the Camels answered with a 5-1 run to build a 5-2 lead late in the second quarter.
W&M responded with a 5-0 run that spanned the second and third quarters to go ahead, 7-5, but CU limited the Tribe to just one goal during the final 20:44.
Kate Draddy led W&M with a team-high four points (2g, 2a) to go with four draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Mila Millhouse also posted an impressive all-around performance and totaled two points (1g, 1a) with three caused turnovers, three ground balls and a draw control, while
Finley Hoffman added a goal with four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Sophie Busam came up big defensively with two caused turnovers and three ground balls, while goalie
Anna Lopez registered nine saves.
Campbell outshot W&M, 32-25, which included a 19-17 edge in attempts on goal.
The Tribe owned a 26-21 advantage in ground balls, but Campbell secured 12 of 20 draw controls, including four of six in the fourth quarter. Both teams committed 19 turnovers apiece.
McKenna Duncan led the Camels with six points (2g, 4a), while Chloe Annibell recorded a hat trick (3g). Drew Watkins added three points (2g, 1a) and a game-high nine draw controls.
W&M will conclude its regular season slate when it plays at Hofstra next Saturday at noon.
