Lax Falls to No. 13 Stony Brook

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to No. 13 Stony Brook, 18-9, at Martin Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
 
Although W&M (7-7, 2-3) trailed by just three, 8-5, early in the third quarter, SBU (12-2, 5-0) broke the game open with eight unanswered goals.
 
The Tribe responded with a 4-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to narrow the gap to 16-8, but it was unable to get any closer as SBU secured the conference victory to remain unbeaten in CAA action.
 
Goalie Anna Lopez led the Tribe defensively and totaled a career-high 18 saves, which ranks tied for the sixth-best performance in school history. Eleven of her stops came during the first half, as the Lewes, Del., native posted a .611 save percentage during the opening 30 minutes of action.
 
Taylor McCall led W&M offensively with three goals, coming on just five shots, as her third score punctuated the Tribe's 3-0 run during the third quarter that narrowed the margin to 8-5.
 
Kate Draddy (1g, 1a), Finley Hoffman (1g, 1a) and Nora Begley (2a) added two points apiece, while Draddy (4 DC, 3 GB) and Hoffman (3 CT, 3 GB) also contributed on the draw circle and defensively.
 
SBU outshot W&M, 50-21, including a 36-15 margin in attempts on goal.
 
The Seawolves also secured 22 of 29 draw controls, held a 27-24 edge in ground balls and committed seven fewer turnovers (15-22).
 
Isabella Caporuscio led SBU with seven points (3g, 4a), while Haydin Eisfeld (5g), Jeilinne Bonilla (4g) and Keira Martin also tallied hat tricks. Braeden Siverson totaled a game-high 18 draw controls.
 
W&M will return to action when it concludes its home slate against Campbell for Senior Day at Martin Family Stadium next Saturday at noon.
