HAMPTON, Va. — Cassidy Geddes scored a game-high 22 points and surpassed the 1,000-career point milestone as William & Mary edged Hampton, 61–60, on Saturday afternoon at the Hampton University Convocation Center.
The win improves the Tribe to 16–13 overall and 9–9 in CAA play, while Hampton falls to 10–20 and 4–14 in conference action. William & Mary also closed the regular season on a three-game winning streak.
Geddes led the Tribe offensively for the 14th time this season, recording her seventh 20-point game of the year. Alexa Mikeska added 12 points and six rebounds, while Monet Dance chipped in eight points and four assists. Jana Sallman finished with eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
William & Mary shot 39% (23-of-59) from the field and 46.2% (6-of-13) from three-point range in the win, while holding a 37–31 rebounding advantage.
First Quarter
The Tribe established control early behind strong shooting from Geddes. William & Mary built an early lead with baskets from Geddes, Alexa Mikeska and Natalie Fox, and closed the quarter with a layup from Fox to take a 16–10 advantage after the opening period.
Second Quarter
William & Mary continued to extend its lead in the second quarter. Geddes converted a three-point play midway through the period, while Sallman and Mikeska added points inside as the Tribe built a double-digit advantage. The Tribe carried a 28–20 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter
The Tribe pushed its lead to as many as 15 points early in the third following a three-pointer from Geddes and a jumper by Dance. Hampton responded with a late run, closing the quarter on a surge to cut the deficit to 41–38 heading into the final frame.
Fourth Quarter
Hampton continued its rally in the fourth and briefly took the lead midway through the period. William & Mary answered with timely baskets, including a three-pointer from Dance and another from Mikeska to regain the advantage.
The Tribe built a five-point lead with under two minutes remaining before Hampton scored in the closing seconds, but William & Mary held on to secure the one-point victory.
