Tribe Tops Elon, 70–59, in Regular Season Home Finale

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary women's basketball closed out its home schedule with a 70–59 victory over Elon on Thursday night at Kaplan Arena.

The win improves the Tribe to 15–13 overall and 8–9 in CAA play, while Elon falls to 14–15 and 9–8 in conference action.

Jana Sallman led William & Mary with a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds. Monet Dance added 16 points and four assists, including a 9-of-10 effort from the free-throw line, while Cassidy Geddes chipped in 10 points and four assists.

William & Mary jumped out to a strong start and never trailed in the contest, building an early double-digit advantage behind efficient shooting and aggressive defense.

The Tribe finished the night shooting 42.1% (24-of-57) from the field and forced 21 Elon turnovers, converting them into 26 points. The bench also played a key role, contributing 27 points in the win.

First Quarter

The Tribe set the tone early, racing out to a quick lead behind baskets from Geddes and Dance. Sallman added six points in the period as William & Mary shot over 50% in the quarter to take a 20–9 advantage after the opening frame.

Second Quarter

William & Mary continued to extend its lead in the second quarter, pushing the margin to as many as 21 points. The Tribe capitalized on Elon turnovers and converted in transition, carrying a 37–22 advantage into halftime.

Third Quarter

Elon found some rhythm offensively in the third, cutting into the deficit behind a 16-point quarter. Sallman and Marley Long responded with key baskets late in the period, allowing the Tribe to maintain control and carry a 48–38 lead into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The Phoenix trimmed the deficit to single digits midway through the fourth, but William & Mary closed the game at the free-throw line. Dance scored several late points at the stripe to help seal the 11-point victory.
