William & Mary Men's Tennis Falls 4–3 to UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. — William & Mary men's tennis dropped a narrow 4–3 decision to UNC Wilmington on Saturday at the UNCW Tennis Complex in the final match of the Battle at the Beach.

The loss moves the Tribe to 6–7 overall and 0–1 in Coastal Athletic Association play, while the Seahawks improve to 5-7 on the season. William & Mary finished the Battle at the Beach with a 1–2 record.

William & Mary opened the match by claiming the doubles point, winning two of the three courts. Gur Trakhtenberg and Oliver Hague earned a 6–4 victory over Alex de and Brady Hussey at No. 1 doubles. Raz Katz and Nikita Bortnichek followed with a 6–4 win over Jordi Domenech and Tomas Marin at No. 3 to secure the point for the Tribe.

In singles play, William & Mary picked up victories at the top two positions. Trakhtenberg delivered a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Lukas Steffan, 6–1, 6–3. Hague added another straight-set win at No. 2, topping Alex de, 6–3, 7–5.

UNC Wilmington responded by winning the remaining four singles matches to secure the team victory. Jordi Domenech defeated Bortnichek, 6–3, 6–3, at No. 3, while Oscar Baumgartner rallied past Austin Cohen in three sets, 3–6, 6–3, 6–1, at No. 4. Tomas Marin earned a 6–4, 6–4 win over Albert Hansen at No. 5, and Brady Hussey closed the match with a 6–1, 7–5 victory against Katz at No. 6.

William & Mary returns home next weekend to host Elon on Friday, March 20, at the Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Tribe will also welcome Hampton on Saturday, March 21, with the match set for 1 p.m.
