WILMINGTON, N.C. — William & Mary men's tennis picked up a 4–1 victory over Lehigh on Friday at the UNCW Tennis Complex as part of the Battle at the Beach.
The win improves the Tribe to 6–6 overall, while the Mountain Hawks fall to 6–7 on the season.
Lehigh claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Oliver Hague and Gur Trakhtenberg earned William & Mary's lone doubles victory with a 6–2 win over Sean Jaeger and Alex Van Lumich at No. 1. The Mountain Hawks secured the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Tribe responded by winning four straight matches to secure the team victory.
Trakhtenberg opened the run with a 6–2, 7–6 (7–4) victory over Jaeger at No. 1 singles. Hague followed with a strong performance at No. 2, defeating Van Lumich, 6–2, 6–4.
Nikita Bortnichek added a three-set win at No. 3 singles, battling past Benedi Horn-Bourque, 6–3, 5–7, 6–2. Austin Cohen clinched the match for the Tribe at No. 4, rallying for a 6–3, 7–6 (7–5) victory over Kosei Ogata.
The remaining two singles matches at No. 5 and No. 6 went unfinished once the team result was decided.
