Tribe Men’s Tennis Edged by Kennesaw State, 4–3, at Battle at the Beach

WILMINGTON, N.C. — William & Mary men's tennis came up just short in a tightly contested match, falling 4–3 to Kennesaw State on Wednesday at the UNCW Tennis Complex as part of the Battle at the Beach.

The loss drops the Tribe to 5–6 overall, while the Owls improve to 9–3 on the season.

William & Mary opened the match by claiming the doubles point, winning two of the three courts. Gur Trakhtenberg and Oliver Hague earned a 6–3 victory over Dominic Ducariu and Ben Hudson at No. 1 doubles. Dylan Chou and Nikita Bortnichek followed with a hard-fought 7–6 win over Xavi Ferrer and Nathan Walters at No. 3 to secure the point for the Tribe. Kennesaw State picked up its lone doubles win at No. 2.

In singles play, William & Mary collected wins at the top two positions. Trakhtenberg posted a 6–0, 6-3 victory over Hudson at No. 1 singles, while Hague battled to a three-set win at No. 2, defeating Leon Peranovic, 6–4, 4–6, 6–4.

Kennesaw State secured the team win by taking the remaining four singles matches. Anthony Weingarten edged Bortnichek in three sets at No. 3, while Dominic Ducariu rallied past Chou at No. 4. Nathan Walters outlasted Austin Cohen in a three-set match at No. 5, and Xavi Ferrer earned a straight-set victory over Albert Hansen at No. 6.

William & Mary continues play at the Battle at the Beach on Friday, March 13, when it faces Lehigh in Wilmington, N.C. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. The Tribe will wrap up the trip with a Coastal Athletic Association matchup at UNC Wilmington on Saturday, March 14, at 3 p.m.
