Tribe Drops Road Contest at Elon on Sunday

ELON, N.C. — William & Mary women's basketball dropped a 75–52 conference decision at Elon on Sunday afternoon inside Schar Center.

The setback moves the Tribe to 12–10 overall and 5–6 in CAA play, while the Phoenix improve to 11–12 on the season and 6–5 in conference action.

Monet Dance and Cassidy Geddes paced William & Mary with seven points apiece. Dynasti Pierce added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench, while Amelia Basit chipped in seven points. Ari Mercado finished with six points, knocking down all six of her free-throw attempts.

William & Mary shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field and 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from three-point range. The Tribe were out-rebounded 48-41 throughout the game and committed 23 turnovers in the contest.

First Quarter

Elon opened the game with an early run, building a double-digit advantage midway through the period. Geddes connected from beyond the arc to stop the momentum, but the Phoenix carried a 22–10 lead after the opening 10 minutes.

Second Quarter

The Tribe battled defensively in the second, limiting Elon's scoring, but struggled to find consistent offense. Baskets from Jana Sallman and Dance kept William & Mary within striking distance, though the Phoenix went into the break ahead 38–19.

Third Quarter

William & Mary came out of halftime with its strongest stretch of the afternoon, scoring 21 points in the quarter. The Tribe forced turnovers and converted at the free-throw line, cutting into the deficit behind contributions from Dance, Geddes and Pierce. Elon, however, maintained control and led 57–40 entering the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

Elon opened the final period with another scoring surge to push the margin back to 20. William & Mary continued to compete down the stretch with baskets from Basit, Pierce and Marley Long, but the Phoenix closed out the contest to secure the home win.
