Five Score in Double Figures as W&M Wins at N.C. A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. — William & Mary men's basketball put five players in double figures in securing a 91-88 road win at N.C. A&T on Saturday afternoon. 

The game showcased the Tribe's efficient ball handling, committing only five turnovers compared to the Aggies' 18. W&M turned those miscues into 20 points on the way to its 18th win of the season. Its marks the 12th time in the 121-year history of the program that the Tribe has won 18 or more games in a season.

Junior Reese Miller scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Senior Chase Lowe added 14 points and collected eight rebounds along with three assists and two steals. Notably, Lowe reached the 1,000-point mark for his career with a free throw late in the second half. 

Junior Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi posted 13 points and contributed five assists, while classmate Kilian Brockhoff added 11 points. Senior Kyle Pulliam rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

W&M (18-11, 9-8 CAA) capitalized on 11 Aggies' turnovers, converting them into 12 points, which contributed to a 46-37 advantage at the end of the first half. The Tribe bench made a significant impact, adding 24 points in the first 20 minutes, while they also dominated in the paint with 24 points. A&T managed to keep the game competitive by shooting 60.9% from the floor. 

After W&M scored the opening six points of the contest, A&T (11-17, 4-13 CAA) used a 12-2 run, including seven in a row from Zamoku Weluche-Ume, to take a 23-20 lead at 11:11 mark. 

The Tribe answered with six in row to retake the lead and then tallied seven in a row to extend the margin to 45-33 with 1:39 left in the opening half. Miller scored four in a row to extend the margin to double digits. 

The Green and Gold led by as much as 13 points, 58-45, less than four minutes into the second half following a Vahlberg Fasasi lay-up. 

The home team battled its way back into the game with a 16-4 run, narrowing the deficit to just 62-61 with 12:27 left. Will Felton scored six during the run, while KJ Debrick scored the final four. The Aggies took their first lead of the contest, 66-65, on a Lewis Walker baseline jumper with just over 11 minutes remaining. 

W&M surged back in front thanks to five in a row from Miller. The junior guard knocked down a jumper and added an conventional 3-point play to give the Tribe a 72-68 lead at the 8:54 mark. 

N.C. A&T, which shot 65.6% in the second half, closed within two points on five occasions in the final 5:05. The last time on a Trent Middleton, Jr. lay-up with 7.7 seconds left to cut the gap to 90-88. Each time though, W&M had the answer. 
 
After a Lowe free throw made it a three-point game, the senior guard made the game-clinching defensive play. The Weddington, N.C., native stole the ball from Middleton, Jr. with four seconds left and threw it the length of the court to preserve the Green and Gold win. 

Walker led all scorers with 27 points, connecting on 11-of-16 field goals, while also contributing four rebounds and four assists. Middleton Jr. recorded a double-double, scoring 15 points and securing 10 rebounds, along with six assists. Weluche-Ume and Felton each added 15 points. As a team, N.C. A&T finished the contest shooting 63.6% (35-of-55) from the field. 

The Tribe shot 50% (32-of-64) from the field and did damage at the free throw line, connecting on 20-of-28 (71.4%). W&M scored 42 points in the paint and totaled 11 steals. Returning to the lineup after missing eight games, graduate student Jhei-R Jones tallied eight points, while sophomore Ryan Jackson, Jr. also chipped in eight off the bench.

The Tribe wraps up the regular season, hosting Hampton on Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night as program honors its 10-member senior class prior to tip-off. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to celebrate the group.
