WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — William & Mary women's tennis dropped a 6–1 decision at Wake Forest on Saturday morning at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The loss moves the Tribe to 5–2 on the season, while the Demon Deacons improve to 6–4 overall.
Wake Forest claimed the doubles point, taking victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Tilda Larsson and Francesca Davis fell 6–3 at the top spot, while Emma Pell and Yaelle Vaissaud were edged 6–3 at No. 3. William & Mary's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Mira Kernagis and Alexia Gonzalez-Galino earned a 6–2 victory.
In singles play, Wake Forest secured straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to clinch the team victory. Sia Chaudry fell 6–1, 6–0 at the top of the lineup, while Francesca Davis (No. 3) and Mira Kernagis (No. 4) were each defeated in two sets.
Tilda Larsson pushed her match to three sets at No. 2 before falling 6–3, 3–6, 6–3.
The Tribe's lone point came at No. 6 singles. Alexia Gonzalez-Galino rallied for a three-set victory, 7–5, 3–6, 10–4, in a match tiebreak to close out the contest.
William & Mary returns home on Thursday, Feb. 26, to host Longwood at 1 p.m. at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va.
