Strong Finish Propels Lax Past George Mason, 14-12

FAIRFAX, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team earned a 14-12 victory at George Mason on Saturday afternoon.

W&M (2-2) trailed by a goal late in the third quarter but rattled off a pivotal 5-1 run to build a 14-11 advantage with 5:16 remaining following a goal by Maresa Moyer off an assist by Finley Hoffman

Mason (2-3) answered with a score by Matye Riley with 3:24 left but was unable to narrow the margin any closer as W&M secured the non-conference road victory.

The matchup was closely contested throughout, as it featured six ties and neither team led by more than three goals at any point.

Seven different Tribe standouts combined to score W&M's eight goals during the second half.

Grace Walter (3g, 2a) and Hoffman (3g, 1a) led the Tribe with hat tricks, while Aubrey Roth (2g, 3a), Nora Begley (2g) and Taylor McCall (2g) provided two goals apiece. McCall added three draw controls, which tied for a team high with Chloe Babich, while Hoffman and Roth also contributed three ground balls apiece.

W&M outshot Mason, 28-20, which included a 15-10 margin in attempts on goal.

The Tribe owned a 15-14 edge in draw controls, while it totaled five more ground balls (15-10) and committed one fewer turnover (10-11).

Mason was led by Kate Anders who recorded a team-high five points (4g, 1a), while Riley (3g) and Riley Ellis (4a) also provided offensive production.

W&M will return to action when it hosts Coastal Carolina at Martin Family Stadium next Saturday (Feb. 28) at noon. The contest will be the Tribe's alumni & family game.
