CONWAY, S.C. — William & Mary men's tennis dropped a 4–2 decision to Furman in a neutral-site matchup Saturday at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The setback moves the Tribe to 1–2 on the season, while the Paladins improve to 2–5 overall.
Furman claimed the doubles point, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Oliver Hague and Gur Trakhtenberg fell 6–2 at the top position, while Nikita Bortnichek and Dylan Chou dropped a 6–3 decision at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Albert Hansen and Theo Nilsson was left unfinished.
In singles play, William & Mary picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 6. Hague delivered a straight-set win at No. 2, 6–1, 6–4, while Hansen added a 6–3, 6–4 triumph at No. 6.
Furman secured the match with wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Gur Trakhtenberg battled to three sets at the top of the lineup before falling 6–3, 3–6, 6–4. Bortnichek was edged in straight sets at No. 3, 7–5, 6–4, and Chou dropped a tightly contested match at No. 5 that featured a pair of tiebreakers.
The No. 4 singles match between Austin Cohen and Walker Allen was left unfinished in the third set.
