CONWAY, S.C. — William & Mary men's tennis dropped a 4–2 decision to Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex in the second match of a doubleheader.
The loss moves the Tribe to 1–3 on the season, while the Chanticleers improve to 5–0 overall.
Doubles was not contested, and the match was decided by singles competition.
William & Mary earned victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles. Oliver Hague rallied for a three-set win at No. 2, 4–6, 7–5, 6–2. Dylan Chou added a victory at No. 5, earning the point in a match that featured a second-set tiebreak.
Coastal Carolina secured the team win with singles victories at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6. Gur Trakhtenberg opened with a first-set shutout at the top of the lineup before falling in three sets. Nikita Bortnichek and Austin Cohen each claimed opening sets at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, but were unable to close out their matches. Albert Hansen battled at No. 6 in a tightly contested match that extended to a deciding tiebreak before the Chanticleers clinched the final point.
