WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men's tennis earned a 6–1 victory over Longwood on Wednesday evening at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
The win moves the Tribe to 1–1 on the season, while the Lancers fall to 0–3.
William & Mary secured the doubles point with wins at the top and bottom of the lineup. Oliver Hague and Gur Trakhtenberg posted a 6–3 victory at No. 1, while Nikita Bortnichek and Dylan Chou earned a 6–2 win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished.
The Tribe carried that momentum into singles play, claiming four completed matches and adding another point by retirement. At No. 2, Hague rallied for a three-set victory, 4–6, 6–3, 6–4.
Austin Cohen cruised to a 6–2, 6–0 win at No. 4, while Chou battled to a 6–3, 7–6 victory at No. 5. Albert Hansen added a straight-set win at No. 6, 6–4, 6–3.
At the top of the lineup, Trakhtenberg was trailing in the second set after dropping the first before Longwood's Timeo Puech retired, giving the Tribe the point at No. 1 singles.
Longwood picked up its lone point at No. 3 singles.
