Lax Falls at George Washington in Season Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The William & Mary lacrosse team opened its season with a 14-8 setback at George Washington in its season opener on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Although W&M (0-1) was outscored by just one goal during the final 30 minutes, it was unable to overcome an 8-3 halftime deficit.
 
The contest was knotted at 1-1 midway through the opening quarter, but the Revs (2-0) utilized a 7-2 run to build a five-goal lead at the intermission.
 
Freshman Mila Millhouse recorded a hat trick in her collegiate debut to lead the Tribe offensively, while Kate Draddy (1g, 1a), Aubrey Roth (1g, 1a) and Nora Begley (1g, 1a) recorded two points apiece.
 
Maresa Moyer added a goal with two caused turnovers, two ground balls and a draw control, while Taylor McCall posted a team-high three draw controls with a caused turnover and a ground ball.
 
W&M outshot GW, 27-25, which included an 18-12 margin in shots on goal.
 
Both teams totaled nine ground balls apiece, but the Revs owns a 14-9 advantage in draw controls.
 
The Tribe committed three fewer turnovers (11-14).
 
Grace Curry led GW with a team-high six goals, while Mia Milkowski registered a hat trick.
 
Daisen Iwan tallied a game-high eight draw controls. Goalie Gabi Greth totaled 12 saves and a .600 save percentage.
 
W&M will return to action when it hosts Longwood for its home opener at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday at noon.
