TOWSON, Md. — In a match that featured 40 ties, William & Mary volleyball came up just short at Towson, falling 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 29-31, 21-25) on Friday night at the SECU Arena.
The Tribe (4-8, 0-3 CAA) answered a late Tigers push by scoring the final four points to take the first set 25-23. After Towson (9-5, 3-2) turned a 21-17 W&M lead into a 23-21 advantage,
Katherine Arnason's kill stopped the run, and
Sophia Van Name had two kills around a
Teagan Pocius kill to finish the set.
W&M was level at 21-21 late in the second set, but the Tigers scored the final four points to take it 25-21. Earlier,
Ava Crabtree's serve helped the Green and Gold move from a 1-1 tie to a 5-1 lead, with Arnason adding a kill and
Olivia Westfort and
Audrey Brcka teaming on a block during the stretch.
The Tribe built a 24-21 lead late in the third set, but the Tigers erased it and ultimately took the set 31-29. Westfort had kills to tie the set at 20 and put W&M ahead 23-21, while Crabtree added a service ace during the late push. Brcka later gave the Green and Gold a 29-28 edge with a kill from
Avery Horejsi before the Tigers scored the final three points.
W&M rallied from an 18-15 deficit to tie the fourth set at 18-18, using a Van Name kill, a
Regan Hill service ace and a Pocius kill. The Tigers answered with the next four points, and the Tribe got back within 24-21 on a block assist by Arnason and Westfort before the Tigers closed out the set 25-21.
