HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The William & Mary women's soccer team captured its third straight victory on Thursday night topping Hofstra, 1-0, at Captains Field on Long Island.
The Tribe (4-5-3, 3-1-1 CAA) is off to its best start to CAA play through five games since it logged a 3-0-2 mark during the 2023 season. W&M also tallied three straight league victories for the second time in as many seasons.

Ava Magnuson provided the game-winner in the 53
rd minute. The freshman's decisive tally marked her third game-winner of the season and her fourth goal over the last three contests. The Sutton, Mass., native recorded a team-high three shots.
Mia Abbey recorded the assist on Magnuson's goal chipping over the Hofstra defense to setup the scoring opportunity. The sophomore has logged four goals and five assists this season leading the Tribe with 13 points.
Mia Tegeris recorded her second clean sheet of the season keeping out all 17 shot attempts and making six saves. The six stops marked the junior's highest mark of conference play this season.
In the initial 25 minutes of action Hofstra controlled possession but neither side generated a threatening chance on goal.
In the 29
th minute, Hofstra's Amy Meadows placed a strike on frame that was stopped in its tracks by
Mia Tegeris. The Pride outpaced the Tribe in the shots category, but the two sides went into the locker room level, 0-0.
In the latter 45 minutes, W&M turned the tides shifting the possession into its attacking third. In the 53
rd minute, Abbey played a ball over the top of the Hofstra center backs and onto a streaking Magnuson. The freshman standout chipped the keeper from just inside the 18-yard box and into the top center of the net to put the Tribe in front, 1-0.
William & Mary continued to apply pressure as Magnuson looked for her second straight brace firing a pair of strikes from right in front of the goalmouth in the 63
rd minute.
In the 81
st minute, a Hofstra (3-6-4, 2-1-2 CAA) goal was called for offside and after a video review the call on the field was upheld. The Tribe defense made key plays down the stretch to preserve the clean sheet and move into second place in the CAA South Division.
