Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Clipped on the Road at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - William & Mary men's basketball rallied from a double-digit to close within a point with 1:22 remaining. Unfortunately, Drexel answered with five straight points to pull out a 64-58 win at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Saturday.

The Tribe (11-6, 2-3 CAA) recorded 15 steals on the afternoon, marking the eighth most in school history and the most against a Division I opponent since 1998. It was not enough to overcome Drexel's 51.1% shooting, including 8-of-18 (44.4%) from 3.

Senior Kyle Pulliam and junior Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi led the team with 10 points apiece. Pulliam was 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-4 from 3, while Vahlberg Fasasi led W&M with six rebounds to go with two steals. Senior Chase Lowe, who had eight points, and graduate student Jo'el Emanuel led the Tribe with three steals apiece.

Drexel (8-10, 2-3 CAA) broke open a back-and-forth opening half by hitting 10 of its final 12 shots from the floor. With the game tied at 21, the Dragons used a 14-3 run to take a double-digit lead. Dillon Tingler capped the run with back-to-back lay-ups to give the home team a 35-24 lead with just over a minute left in the half.

The Dragons led 37-28 at the break thanks to shooting 58.3% (14-of-24) in the first half.

W&M forced Drexel into 19 turnovers, including 11 in the second half. A Tribe steal led to a Vahlberg Fasasi lay-up in transition just over six minutes into the second frame to cut the deficit to 42-38.

Drexel answered with seven in a row to extend the lead back to 11 and forced a Tribe timeout with 11:25 remaining. Victor Panov hit a corner 3-pointer and a Kevon Vanderhorst driving lay-up ended the run and gave the home team a 49-38 lead.

Vahlberg Fasasi answered with six quick points, including a 4-point play, to narrow the gap to five, 49-44.

W&M twice closed within two, before a cutting lay-up from sophomore Ryan Jackson, Jr. off a Pulliam pass with 1:22 remaining slice the margin to just one, 57-56.

Panov answered to put the game out of reach on the ensuing Dragons' possession. The 6-7 forward connected on a corner 3-pointer with 55 seconds remaining to push the margin back to four, and Josh Reed hit two free throws with 7.1 seconds left to end it.

W&M turned those 19 Drexel turnovers into 18 points, but shot just 36.7% for the game. The Tribe was also just 5-of-23 (21.7%) from 3-point range.

Vanderhorst and Shane Blakeney led Drexel with 13 points apiece. Blakeney added six rebounds and five assists, while hitting 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Reed added 11 points off bench, while Panov was 2-of-3 from 3-point range and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
