Wild Second Half Leads to 3-3 Draw Between Women's Soccer and No. 20 Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va. — William & Mary and No. 20 Virginia Tech battled to a 3-3 draw on Sunday in Blacksburg. The Tribe rallied with three second-half goals to match the Hokies' efforts.

The game featured intense back-and-forth action, with both teams capitalizing on their scoring opportunities, as William & Mary recorded five shots on goal, while Virginia Tech managed eight.

The first half's tense action set the tone for the night as Virginia Tech took an early lead with a goal in the 19th minute. The tally came off a bouncing ball just outside the box and was finished from 20 yards out.

W&M showed a burst of energy after the Virginia Tech goal but was unable to equalize before halftime. W&M responded with a corner kick shortly after at 19', pressuring the Hokies' defense. Despite attempts by Ella Ledwith and Ellie Leffler, whose shots were both saved by Virginia Tech's goalkeeper, the Tribe trailed 1-0 at the close of the half.

The second half was action-packed with both offenses constantly attacking.

William & Mary leveled the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute through a goal by Ivey Crain. Crain was able to steal a pass from the keeper and finish it off into the unattended goal.

Despite Virginia Tech briefly retaking the lead, Lindsay Wilson responded quickly with a goal in the 63rd minute, tying the game again at 2-2. Wilson's goal came off a deflection from an Alyssa Kenealy cross, marking her fourth goal of the year, a new career-high for her.

In a tense final stretch, Brooke Oswald equalized in the 88th minute with an assist from Leffler, ensuring the match concluded in a 3-3 draw. Oswald took a pass from Leffler to get behind the Hokies backline and lofted a shot perfectly over the keeper.
