WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary women's soccer secured a 2-1 victory over Elon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Saturday afternoon. The Tribe scored both goals in the second half, overcoming a first-half deficit to claim the win and remain unbeaten in CAA play.
Freshman
Ellie Leffler and senior
Sheridan Brummett each found the back of the net in the final 45 minutes to lift the Tribe (3-4-4, 1-0-2 CAA) to victory. It was Leffler's second goal in as many games, while it was Brummett's second of the season and first career game-winner.
Elon (6-2-3, 0-2-1) took the lead in the 27th minute when Isa Murdock scored on a rocket to the upper right corner of the goal from 15 yards out.
Despite outshooting the Phoenix, 7-4, in the opening half, W&M trailed at the break, but wasted little time finding the equalizer just five minutes into the second frame. Off a corner kick, senior
Ivey Crain's initial shot bounced off the crossbar and back into play. Leffler jumped on the rebound to punch it home and pull the Tribe even in the 50th minute. It was Crain's first assist of the season and eighth of her career.
The decisive goal came in the 78th minute off a beautiful combination from a throw-in. On the play, sophomore
Kenley Campbell sent senior
Madison Moon free along the right side of the 18 yards box. Moon's cross found the foot of Brummett who one-touched it into the roof of the goal for the game-winner. The assist was the first of Campbell's career and first of the campaign for Moon.
For the game, the Tribe outshot Elon, 19-8, including putting 11 shots on frame compared to five for the visitor. Crain led W&M with six shots, including four on goal, while Leffler had four shots and three on frame.
Freshman goalkeeper
Gwen Doughty played all 90 minutes to earn the win, while making three saves.
W&M continues CAA play when it hits the road to take on Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. on Thursday, Oct. 2. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff and will be streamed on FloCollege.
