WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary volleyball fell to Campbell in four sets (25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14) on Friday evening at Kaplan Arena in the CAA opener.

The Tribe (5-7, 0-1 CAA) began the first set against Campbell (9-3, 1-0) with an early challenge, facing a quick 4-0 deficit. Devereaux Hoxsie provided a spark with a kill from Shylah Swope, putting the home team on the board. Despite some service errors, the Tribe narrowed the gap to 8-5 with contributions from Katherine Arnason and Audrey Brcka. The set saw the Tribe consistently fighting back, with Hoxsie securing back-to-back kills to bring the score to 15-11. However, Campbell managed to regain momentum, extending their lead with a series of successful plays. Despite a late point from Brcka, Campbell closed the set with a 25-15 advantage.

In the second set, W&M struggled to find momentum as Campbell initiated a strong run with Barbara Illig's sequence of three consecutive service aces, contributing to a 6-1 advantage. Despite a few scoring responses from the Green and Gold, including a kill by Hoxsie and an ace from Brcka, the team faced challenges in overcoming Campbell's consistent pressure. The Tribe managed to narrow the gap slightly with a late three-point push, highlighted by Hoxsie's offensive contributions. However, Campbell maintained control, closing the set at 25-18 with another service ace from Illig, marking a decisive set win.

The third set began with Campbell gaining an early edge, but W&M swiftly responded through solid defensive efforts, with Olivia Westfort and Beatriz Silva combining for a block, leveling the score at 1-1. Arnason and Brcka contributed crucial kills as the Tribe took the lead with a series of effective plays, moving ahead 6-4. Despite Campbell tying the score multiple times, W&M's consistent offensive pressure, highlighted by Silva's service ace and multiple kills from Hoxsie, helped extend their advantage to 18-12. Campbell attempted a late rally, narrowing the margin to 22-21, but the Green and Gold closed the set with consecutive kills from Hoxsie to secure a 25-21 win, maintaining their lead in the match.

The fourth set began with a tight exchange of points. W&M quickly responded to Campbell's attacks with a kill by Hoxsie, setting the tone for a back-and-forth battle. The score was tied at 3-3 following a service ace by Westfort, indicating a competitive start for the home team. As the set progressed, Arnason contributed with crucial kills, keeping W&M close. However, Campbell's offense capitalized on a series of attack errors from the Green and Gold, allowing them to gradually extend their lead. Despite a determined effort from Brcka and Silva, who orchestrated several successful plays, Campbell maintained pressure.
