TOWSON, Md. — William & Mary women's soccer and Towson played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Tiger Field. Both teams exchanged goals in the first half, with neither side able to break the deadlock in the second half.
W&M took 10 shots, with five on goal, while Towson matched them with 10 shots and five shots on goal.
The first half saw both teams finding the back of the net, with Towson taking an early lead in the 5th minute.
The Tribe responded with consistent pressure, culminating in
Ellie Leffler's equalizing goal at the 37th minute, assisted by
Brooke Oswald.
The tally was set up by a turnover from Towson that allowed Oswald to find Leffler all alone in the box. From there, the freshman was able to beat the keeper for her first career goal.
Goalkeeper
Gwen Doughty played a crucial role in keeping the game level by saving a penalty kick in the 21st minute, ensuring the teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
The second half began with both teams looking to break the 1-1 deadlock established in the first half.
Ava Marvin's attempt in the 51st minute was saved. Despite several fouls and corners throughout the period, neither team could capitalize, as
Ivey Crain's shot in the 77th minute was also saved, leaving the match level at the final whistle.
Doughty played a full 90 minutes in goal, recording three saves while facing ten shots, allowing just one goal.
Looking ahead, W&M will host Elon on September 27. The match is set for 1 p.m. at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field in Williamsburg, Va.
